Bin unglaublich gespannt. Ashes Against the Grain war/ist IMO ein absolutes Meisterwerk und wenn ich mir Album sowie Songtitel und Cover der neuen so ansehe....
AGALLOCH - Complete New Album/West Coast Tour Imminent
Pacific Northwest dark metal legends AGALLOCH have completed work on their fourth full-length entitled “Marrow Of The Spirit”, the follow-up to 2006’s “Ashes Against The Grain”.
Where the three predecessors to “Marrow Of The Spirit” (namely “Pale Folklore”, “The Mantle”, and the aforementioned “Ashes Against The Grain”) all differ from each other, the same can be applied with the new album as “Marrow Of The Spirit” is unlike anything AGALLOCH have ever produced before. This is also the first album to feature new AGALLOCH drummer Aesop Dekker (also in Profound Lore acts LUDICRA and WORM OUROBOROS) and features guest appearances by cellist Jackie Perez Gratz (GRAYCEON, GIANT SQUID, ASUNDER, AMBER ASYLUM), Jeffrey Neblock (VINDENSANG), and Nathan Carson (WITCH MOUNTAIN, TWO-TON BOA, SUNN 0)))).
Recorded and mixed on analog through the means of exquisite vintage gear within the months of July and August in Portland, Oregon at Audible Alchemy Studios with (FAUST guitarist) Steven Wray Lobdell and mastered and manifested in San Francisco, California at Trakworx Studios with Justin Weis (LUDICRA, SLOUGH FEG, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE) the six time-stretching songs that encompass “Marrow Of The Spirit” each come across as their own distinct identities amongst themselves. At over an hour in length, “Marrow Of The Spirit” is AGALLOCH’s darkest, bleakest, most dense, detailed and aggressive album to date and in turn is the most accomplished album of their career.

Hm, ich würde dir das erwähnte "Ashes Against the Grain" (mein Lieblingsalbum) ans Herz legen. "The Mantle" ist größtenteils akkustisch und etwas simpel gestrickt, aber trotzdem ziemlich gut. Das Debüt "Pale Folklore" ist ähnlich wie Ashes, nur IMO noch nicht so ausgefeilt... also es hat nicht diesen perfekten "Fluss" und auch die Melodien sind noch nicht so genial wie bei Ashes. Ich hoffe ich konnte dir damit etwas weiterhelfen.

wenns so wird wie die Ashes, kann die garnicht schlecht werden. Bleibt zu hoffen!

Die soll ja anscheinend ganz anders sein. Angeblich back to the roots (?), mehr Richtung Black Metal und John soll auch andere Gesangstechniken (ähnlich wie Nattramn (Ex-Chelmno, Silencer)) verwendet haben.
@Irenicus: Bin heute zufällig über das Album gestolpert und fragte mich, ob du es mir empfehlen kannst oder eher nicht und wie du es letztlich findest.

Ich hab noch nichts dazu geschrieben, weil ich mir bisher immer noch keine endgültige Meinung bilden konnte/wollte. Irgendwie werd ich mit der Scheibe einfach nicht warm, da klingt mir vieles zu undurchdacht und unausgegoren. Die flüssige, harmonische (gar teils an klassische Musik erinnernde) Komposition der letzten Alben ist nicht mehr so wirklich vorhanden. Die grandiosen Melodien vermisst man auch größtenteils. Hier und da sind zwar noch ein paar gute bis sehr gute zu finden, aber irgendwie setzt man sie nicht konsequent fort oder sie werden eher monoton wiederholt. Die neuen Elemente/Einflüsse sind an und für sich nett (und willkommen), aber dadurch müssen sie wohl ihr altes Kompositionstalent etwas verloren haben. Ist zumindest so mein Eindruck.
Meiner Meinung nach (bis jetzt zumindest) die schwächste Agalloch und daher kann ich nur vom Kauf abraten, denn ansonsten würdest du wohl nen falschen Eindruck von der Band bekommen.
Empfehlen würde ich dir die "Ashes Against the Grain", für mich ihr bestes Album und es eignet sich auch sehr gut zum Einstieg, auch wenns teils komplexere Songs enthält, aber da hört man sich auch rein.
