wird mit der zeit besser, der anfang und der schluss sind genial, der lange instrumental-mittelteil gefällt mir allerdings nicht so. plätschert immer vor sich hin, ähnlich wie breeg, den ich auf amolad immer skippe...
Für mich eines der besten Epics von Maiden. POTO mag ich nicht sonderlich und ROTAM und Alexander finde ich nicht besser als WTWWB, eher noch eine Spur weniger packend. Was Harris-Epics angeht schlägt für mich einzig Hallowed be thy name diesen neuen Hammersong.
Gerade die Diskrepanz zwischen traurigen und dramatischen Lyrics und der beschwingten Melodie ist bedrückend und gänsehautverursachend. Den Instrumentalteil finde ich super, vor allem die kurze Passage, in der das Solo neben der Lead-Melodie herläuft. Sowas sollten die öfter machen. Lediglich den Übergang vom ersten Melodieteil zum kurzen Instrumental-Part danach finde ich etwas zu krass. Da hätten sie etwas mehr Gas geben sollen.
Ich habe den Song nun mehrmals gehört und der geht mir einfach nicht ins Ohr rein. Das einzige was hängen bleibt ist die Afraid To Shoot Strangers Melodie die öfters im Song auftaucht.

Naja, nach mehrmaligem hören stößt mir vor allem eines auf: Die Kinderliedmelodie. Ich stelle mir unwillkürlich 20 CVJM Idioten vor die rhythmisch mit klatschen. Vielleicht gewinnt der Song ja noch mit der Zeit, aber im Moment bin ich skeptisch.
Stimme ich auch zu, das Lied ist Hammer und ich kanns nicht oft und laut genug hören... das einzige was mich stört sind die kleinen Tonfehler bei Outro. Da wirds 2 mal kurz leiser, als wäre da eine Störung... Kann mir nicht vorstellen dass das so gewollt ist! Hat das noch jemand gehört?
Ich persönlich finde den Song auch viel besser als Rime oder Alexander...ist aber schwer mit Songs wie Hallowed oder Phantom zu vergleichen, weil die eigentlich in eine andere Kerbe schlagen, wenn ihr mich fragt. ;)
Jedenfalls einer meiner neuen Lieblingsmaidensongs und nochmal einen Tick besser als FotD! Und das will schon was heißen! Also mir gefällt ganz besonders diese "Kinderliedmelodie", sie ist einfach wunderschön und einfach, bleibt schnell hängen und wirkt irgendwie ganz anders, wenn man den Text dazu kennt. Musste das Intro auch gleich auf Gitarre lernen.*lach*^^
Ich finde "When The Wild Wind Blows" kommt für mich, auf seine Art und Weise, dicht an "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" ran. Würde sogar soweit gehen, er, ist für mich, mit einer der besten Maiden-Song`s der letzten Jahre! Denn höre ich bisher mit am häufigsten vom neuen Album. Auch hier: Genialer Anfang, sowohl von der Melodie als auch vom Gesang. Und ich mag hier den Mittelteil auch so sehr. Super. "When The Wild Wind Blows", denke ich, hat das Zeug und Potenzial zu einem der Maiden-Klassiker! (Ich weiß, da gibt`s sehr viele, jetzt halt noch einen mehr!)
